I just purchased a new DIR-685 from the Taiwan computer center (Guang Hua Shang Chang). When I tried to configure this with my Mac (using 192.168.0.1), the whole configuration page is in Chinese.
I downloaded the new firmware and tried to upgrade the firmware to an English version and it says the firmware file (.bin file) is bad.
HELP !!!

Interesting,
Did you try the firmware on the Swedish d-link site or the US or UK site, Australia?
I guess there is a reason that the US site has a new firmware but it says US only
and in Sweden the older version is available.....
So i don't dare to use the US version to upgrade my router!
Otherwise i guess you are stuck with that ch firmware or needs to hack some check
in the code to fool it to upgrade, i can't imagine it should be a diffrent HW......
Or maybe the .bin file is corrupt! Unzip it on a PC maybe?
