Title: MAC Address Filtering
Post by: JavaLawyer on January 05, 2010, 12:34:13 PM
Does the DIR firmware provide the ability to limit the MAC filtering to wireless connections, while allowing all wired connections to enter the network?

I have MAC filtering enabled, but must enter the MAC address of all wired devices (as well as wireless) in order for wired devices to use network resources.  I'm guessing that I'm doing something wrong, as all other brands of routers I've used have this capability.

I'm hoping this is a configuration issue that someone can help resolve.  Residential users seldom have the need to use MAC address filtering for hard-wired devices.

Can someone please tell me if there is a setting that I've overlooked that can resolve this issue?

I don't want to beat a dead horse, but has anyone found a workaround to this issue? or is this just how the firmware is setup?

have not found a way around it, I have my dir-615 sitting back in its box now waiting if there will ever be another firmware release.

I love MAC address filtering and think it's agreat way to secure your network.  However the 615 forgets the filter half the time even with the latest firmware.  It's just a buggy router, get a 655.

When you say "forgets the filter," do mean that the table filter table entries are deleted or that connections enter the network even with filtering enabled?  Please elaborate.
