ok i'm really lost on this one. i've tried everything i can think of. i got rid of the stupid vonage today, so i've freed up some wasted bandwidth, if that may have been causing an issue (though i doubt it). i've posted about this before, as i have seen others, but every few minutes, my wii is assigned an ip, and about 20 seconds later, is disconnected and the reason in the log is "received deauthentication". i went in today and manually assigned an ip address in the router, as well as made it a permanent assignation. then i went to my wii and manually reconfigured my wireless connection to a static ip (of course to the one i just assigned it). it still hasn't stopped the deauthentication issue! do i need to use the DMZ thing (although i don't really understand what that is)? is there a chance it will help? i don't play the wii online with other people; i just use it to access news, the "everybody votes channel", and download games basically. i've scoured the nintendo support pages and they have some d-link routers listed with help pages, but no dir series routers, and not the dir-655. the closest they have are a few di series routers, and i have no clue how close they are to this one. i haven't called nintendo, as i'm sure they will say it is d-link's problem, and i should call my router company. the funny thing is, i never seem to have a problem if i am on the wii reading the news or shopping for games or anything; i never blatantly get kicked offline. it is really weird.
any help or insight anyone could offer would be really great!
thanks so much!
and please, try to remember that i'm low-to-mid-level in experience with technology ;) im not a total idiot, but don't use too many big words i'll have to look up on wikipedia please ;) thanks again!

I have this problem as well. I changed to WPA2 only but that did not end the problem, my logs are still full of received deauthentication for my Wii and one of my 2 Thinkpads. I really wish D-Link would address this problem, as the internet is starting to get full of people wondering what's going on w/ received deauthentication, yet there is no official response or honest to god solution available yet.
Please help!

Are you guys running any MAC filtering on the network?
-
I've got the same problem and I am not running any MAC filtering. I've made the same changes to my network as the above posters.
-
Any advice? I'll give anything a try.
-
Exactly: net is PLENTY of "received deauthentication" problem with any kind of device attached to dir-655... something really big happened and seems D-Link didnīt wake up till now...
Lycan: I was running DIR-655 with MAC filtering on... I turned it off, but the problem not disappear, but I had an improvement... now I have much less "received deauthentication"
-
It's something that I'm looking in to. I need to try to replicate this in our labs.
-
I'd love to hear the outcome of this - I have the same problem: A dir-655 that frequently drops connections to a variety of pc's when running in WPA/WPA2 AES mode at high speeds.
If I change router settings to WEP and the router drops speed to 54 Mbps then everything is fine.
There's lots of postings outside this forum on the same problem, some where DIR-655 users claim that by reverting to older firmware versions (or newer beta versions) they can beat the problem. Not sure how reliable that info is, but I'd sure like a definitive solution. I'm running a 1.11 Firmware. Thanks.

I fixed my deauthentication/drop problems rather quickly by applying 2 Windows XP hotfixes, updating my N adapter drivers and forcing WAP2 w/AES on the router.
Here are the hotfixes I applied, you should be able to find the links easily enough by searching the KB#'s. I compared the network files in both of these to the ones in my system32 folder and determined that I was out-of-date. I think 893* fixed my problem then I applied 917* just to be as up-to-date as possible. Give it a shot, can't hurt!

EricP thanks for the idea, but we are looking at how to prevent deauthentication on a Nintendo Wii.
Anyone get this to work better yet? Nothing I've tried makes a difference.

i am not running mac filtering, as i cannot even figure out what that is. i am computer illiterate. i just ran the update from 12/5/2007. i am trying to get things set up for the wii and ps3 to be on static ips, as we just switched from xbox360 to ps3, and ps3 keeps getting bumped out of online rooms; 360 never did that. i have my husband convinced it is their servers, as ps3's are selling like hotcakes and their servers probably aren't big enough to handle it, like 360 after xmas. anything happens, he wants to blame the router *rolling eyes* men. they are such babies. but please help here!
thanks!

Check the NAT ENDPOINT Filter/ SPI settings. Turn SPI off and change the ENDPOINT filters to endpoint independent.

This did not work, nor did I need to do this on my DIR 625 or my DI-634M. Still repeat deauths. Firmware 1.11 and hardware A3. intel wireless 2200bg

Does the de-auth stop if the encryptionis removed?

Does the de-auth stop if the encryptionis removed?
OK, I did a bad thing... two variables.
I seem to be stable now, but I applied the hotfix listed on this page.
Update for Windows XP (KB893357)
Started from scratch with the router. left encryption off...
Seemed fine. Then re-built my routing table.
Seemed fine. Then added WPA.
Seems fine.
So I think that I am seeing the up-time due to hotfix listed.
To help you (if needed!) I have a 634m and a dir 625 that did not need this hotfix for me to have a solid connection. I will update later to tell you if it is stable long term.
-
The patch should help PC clients, but the fact that it helped the Wii is odd. I wonder if the PC was causing a De-auth to the router forcing to it dump all of it's clients.

Yep when I built my routing table I switched the mac addresses. So I can connect with everything in the house w/wpa-or-wpa2 and the hotfixes applied.
I will let you know if it is stable.

Wii is the only thing having connection issues now. It connects and disconnects multiple times a day. repeatedly.
VPN to company internet. works.
xbox360. works.
multiple "G" dell cards all seem to work with the hotfixes. (done)
The wrt111 netgear (108) works if uncheck the option to use 108 (so leave the 54 option checked). (works)
PSP seems fine. (works)
The Dlink NAS, Print server, switch, and wired NICs all have worked all along.
I have WPA and WPA2 mode enabled. I will try wpa only in a day or two after I am sure everything is stable to see if that helps the wii.

I have already replaced a DIR655 A2 router because of the deauthentication issue & other random reboots & looping reboot issue.
I specifically asked for an A3 version from RMA. I got it and seems to have solved the rebooting problems but not the " received deauthentication.." I use a PCIExpress DWA556 adapter and also after receiving "deauth." if I manually select the SSID from Vista Wireless Manager top reconnect it won't connect with message "trying to authenticate", so the only solution is to disable/enable the adapter & other times that won't work either.
I have finally tried Lycan's solution in the router
Quote
"Turn SPI off and change the ENDPOINT filters to endpoint independent. "
IT WORKS, at least during last 10 hours, I have also manually disconnected & connected to the router without any issues FOR NOW. If everything goes as expect during at least a week, I will report back.
-
I am running the A2 hardware version with the latest BETA firmware. I have made these changes: "Turn SPI off and change the ENDPOINT filters to endpoint independent. ". I kepp getting the deauthentication!
What is the problem? Come on Dlink, the web is full of these "Deauthetication" issues! You really have no solution for it?
-
We're not able to replicate the issue in house. The PC's require a patch from microsoft that is included with SP3 but can also be obtained seperately.
As for the console systems, it's a hard sell because we are not able to replicate.
Check out this patch

Hi,
I know this is not the proper post but I have the same issue with my wii and my WBR-2310.
I will create a thread there but.... this may open light at DLink :)

It is very hard for me to believe that the Wii problem cannot be replicated!
Is it anything I can do to help determining the problem? Enabling some special debugging logs, sending it to you, etc. Any other suggestions?
-
Well, I have a Wii and I have a 655 and I have a 360 and more and I do not see tihs issue in my home.
Deauth is a difficult issue oto diagonse. Can you send me a copy of the config?

I tried to attach it to the reply. It says that it is too big. The file's size is 187K ... Is there any other way to send it to you?
-
I have sent you the config file ... Any news regarding this problem?
-
We're not able to replicate the de-auth.
However, I did see some odd thigns happening from the Wii, as well as my iPhone. hang tight for more testing.
-
Any news on this front?
I am thinking buying another brand name router ... The majority of de-authentication problems on the Internet are Dlink ...
This is an interesting article, it might give clue to the dev team on what kind of solution they could implement to a premature de-authentication disconnect: http://www.techworld.com/news/index.cfm?fuseaction=displaynews&newsid=347

Thats a very interesting article. I've forwarded it to our PM group and my managers. We'll see what can be done. In the mean time, I apologize for the frustrations. We're working to correct this asap.

I get the Wii deauthentication too. I'd send you my config but I'm not sure how to send that and I don't want to post it publicly. If I figure out how to do so I will do it.
Here is a few deauthentications I get with my Wii using Syslog server. I've marked out the MAC address but otherwise it's as it appears in my logs:

I have solved my de-authentication problem!
I have turned off wireless on the DIR-655 :). I am using an Airport Extreme now as the wireless AP.
I am really disappointed in the response to this old D-link problem ... The DIR-655 was my first D-link purchase an I think it will also be the last!
-
Hi pmarcovi.
are you saying that you wii stays connected always or only that you don't see de=authentication in your new logs ?
I've stop worrying me about this when I saw on an other forum that Wiiconnect24 was the "issue".. It try not to stay connected that way it can use less energy... I also saw some other brand having the same issue...
-- If you don't have any "dhcp lease" each 2-5 min from your wii... please tell me.. ;)
-
The log is filled with thousands of message like in "maeric" post above. The Wii is doing it's job! Even in standby, it checks for new mail, weather, etc. Wiiconnect24 is an application above the networking layer, it cannot be the cause. It is like saying that your D-link router has issues with your Outlook ...

Yes, I used a LynksysG router as a wireless AP to solve this problem for a MAC laptop.
I solved the problem for my two XP laptops by upgrading the wireless drivers from the Intel download site. So, I have the 655 wireless on and use it with the upgraded XP laptops, and on a separate SSID I use the LinksysG as the wireless interface for the MAC.
Perhaps it is just the case that D-Link only tested the 655 with "N"ish compliant wireless drivers and did not notice that their router has significant problems with legacy wireless drivers (i.e. drivers that work just fine with essentially all a/b/g wireless routers)
I too am disappointed with D-Link's response. The real problem here seems to be a disconnect between D-Link customer support and D-Link sustaining engineering. I don't see any evidence that they have systematically studied the deauth complaints and taken a look at the 655 interacting with older (i.e. a year or two) wireless drivers.

While we can say some Intel wireless cards can be old, we cannot say that about a Wii.
Anyway, all this exposes either a poor customer support from Dlink, or its lack of resources to tackle this problem. Either way not an encouraging sign from a company that you would want to consider for your networking needs.

Lycan,
Any new info on this Wii deauthentication issue?
Happening with hardware revision A2-firmware 1.20
-
Not really, I have a early model Wii and I don't have these issues. I'll see if we can get a contact at Nintendo to help us out. no promises though.
-
I guess Nintendo has been using other, lower grade stockpiles of chipsets to make production figures get up to speed with demand 8) Would not be the first time that happened
-
I think i am having the same issue... i got a nintendo DS the other day and i got it configured with WEP and set it to only B/G, turned the SPI nd filtering off...... eveything seems to go well but now it tells me it cant get a IP address to check my DHCP... but i check the logs and i get this.... "Wireless system with MAC address 0021471D554A disconnected for reason: Received Deauthentication."
i have a 1.11 firmware on A3 hardware, should i change firmwares? (is there a zip that contains all the firmwares for easier testing?)
