Title: Proper Procedure for Upgrading Drivers
Post by: aquaman8 on January 14, 2010, 12:00:27 PM
Hi,

I am running Vista 32 bit Home edition and want to upgrade the driver for my DWA-522. I went to the D-link site, downloaded and unzipped the 1.6 upgrade, but when I run the Set-up.exe program, my computer takes a long time to complete the installation, then when finished does not recognize that the wireless LAN card is installed in my machine.

I looked on the FAQ page of the D-link site, but it is still unclear. Do I need to go the Manage- Install new driver route, or am I missing something.

Thank you for your help.

Hi Mitch,

You did it wrong. Download and save the file downloaded. Unpack the Drivers and do not run its Setup program.
Go to the Device Manage and locate the Device. Open up the Card properties. Click Drivers. Click Update the Drivers. Do not connect to the Internet, but point it, or include the unzipped Drivers in the location it searches.

But for now, you need to uninstall D-Link from Programs in the Control Panel.

Is this just for "Updates"?  I don't think this applies to new installs.

Hi retread,

This applies to new Installs as well.

Hi retread,

This applies to new Installs as well.

This may be for this card, but not for anything else.  Besides, I tried this for the DWA-552 and it won't work any more than doing it the standard way.

Note:  I installed my DWA-556 using the standard method of running Setup from the downloaded installation files, and it works just fine.
