Title: Help Needed: Changes are disappearing after REBOOT
Post by: evolv on January 20, 2010, 06:43:49 PM
When I set up QoS, Port Forwarding, or anything that needs a REBOOT to lock in the changes, the changes DO NOT appear after the reboot.

I have tried everything from connecting with only one computer (via cable) waiting several hours to saving the config files and reloading them, etc.

Each and every attempt I have tried I end up with original default settings.

I do remember a time when (Before 1.32NA) that the settings would stay after a reboot.

Since I cannot roll back 1.32, what else can I try?

Has anyone else run into this problem?  Maybe it is something I am doing.

I'm sorry. This router is a joke.
I couldn't connect to my home connection the last two days, went home, ALL my port forwarding entries were gone...just gone.
Not the first time. I "upgraded" to the new beta that came out last in the last couple of days.
Connected today from work, connected to the router to enable remote management.
Rebooted the router.

Looks like I won't be getting into my network till I get home ...again.
I am so sick of the constant rebooting after slow connectivity, settings dissapearing and constantly waiting hopefully for new firmware.

Can anyone recommend a RELIABLE wireless N router.

It happens through the revisions.  I had a 1.21 that did that. You probably will have to reset the router to factory defaults, and then flash it again. Not the most ideal thing to do really.

Nope.
I ran the 132b revision for a month fine, then Monday I couldn't connect. I looked and randomly all of my port forwars settings had just disappeared. I flashed it with the 133 Beta last night and it worked till I remoted from work today. Rebooted the router remotely and all the PF settings disappeared yet again.
I'm about to smash this thing and buy a Linksys.

I have the exact same problem regarding port settings disappearing.

Been running 132NA for a little over a month or so with no problems, but when I needed to open some ports due to SSL servers on my net I quickly found that any new changes would be discarded, and I do mean ANY new changes at all I tried to make, not just port forwarding, virtual server and application rules, but also remote management settings.

I have tried about everything I could think of and a googled a lot for any solution, but none has shown up..

Finally yesterday I decided to try 132NA beta 09 and I typed in the ports needed. Woho, today the changes are still in place, but since I needed to add some extra rules I found that the router once again drops ANY changes I make.. at least it remembers the first set of settings I set up, but I can't upgrade firmware everytime I need to make a change...

I'm NOT normally into beta anything on my router or other critical devices, so the beta 09 was a huge step to take and I only did it reluctantly.

RMA form on dlink keeps erroring out for me, so cant contact support, sadly.

So, for now I'm stuck without port 443 open, which means I can't access HTTPS servers, which is very bad for business...

I did the following and so far it seems to remember my settings when saving and rebooting now:
---
Step 1 Locate the reset pinhole on the back of the unit.

Step 2 With the router powered on, press and hold the Reset button.

Step 3 Hold the Reset button for about 10 seconds.

Step 4 Release the Reset button.

Step 5 The device is now at factory defaults.

Reconfigure router as per your network setup:-
---

One thing that was odd though, was that my "port forwarding" rules didn't reset! Made it easier to setup again, but just odd.

Hope it helps other than me.
