Title: Adding another Hard Drive to DNS-323
Post by: mdntblu on January 23, 2010, 08:30:56 PM
I have a DNS-323 with 1 Samsung 1TB hard drive. I am pretty sure I put it in the slot that it said to put it in when I bought it.  I now have another Samsung 1TB hard drive.  I want to put it in and make Mirroring Raid 1.  If I add the second hard drive will it lose all my data on my 1st drive?

Thanks

Yes, the DNS will format both drives for the new RAID1 configuration.
So better back up your files.

Actually, if you look around here, you'll see that you should be able to add the drive and create the array without losing the data.

With that being said, you do NOT want to be screwing around if that's your only copy of the data!

Remember: Data you don't have at least two copies of is data you don't care about.

I added a second drive to the nas and did not loose my data, created the raid 1 and all was fine
