Title: Removing center antenna gives better signal strength?

I don't know why I tried this but I was amazed that it worked.  Before trying this I was getting 60%-80% signal strength from my DIR655 router via wireless N.  I removed the center antenna and now I'm getting 98%-100% signal strength from/to my laptop.

So would anyone hazzard a guess as to why this would be?  Not that I'm complaining here but thought I'd pass it along.  The router is lying horizontal with its two outter antennas now pointing straight up.

That is strange; two antennas with the same alignment would typically makes things worse.  Have you tried this thread yet?

My DIR-655 is sitting horizontal on a desk and has all three antenna pointing straight up.
If any antenna is moved to any other direction I get a 5 to 10 dBm loss at the workstation using inSSIDer.

So that disagrees completely with the conventional wisdom posted here.
