Hello all,
I wanted to replace a linksys wrt160n router with a dlink 655. I ordered the dlink one and i received yesterday. Gone to the setup process and then connected my 2 laptops to the router...going in the conneciton status i am seeing both of them as 54mbs g connection only. I tried 2-3 hours to make them connect in N standard without success.
My setup:
Dlink uses WPA2 with AES
1 Laptop has intel 5100 wireless card
1 Laptop has intel 5300 wireless card
Both of them are supporting 40 mhz.
On the linksys i am always getting 144 Mbs. What can be the problem here?

And with the router set to N only?
-
Router is set to Mixed (N/g/b).
I have 3 laptops, the third one does not have a N wireless card only a g one.

For testing purposes, try N only and see what happens....Also, exclude B if you really don't need it.

if the router detects a G client, your speeds are going to be sacrificed. but they should connect at N.
All my clients connect at N, even one with a linksys 54GS adapter, it connects at OVER 108Mbs. that was a suprise to me. Only have 1 G client well two if you account for the ps3. BTW, mind selling that wrt160N? :)

After work i went back home and tried again. This time i changed to mode to N only. In both intel wireless cards i went to settings and changed the "channel width band for 2.4" to AUTO from 20 mhz.
Now, i finally can connect with N standard and both laptops are showing 300 mbs speed.
I dont know what to do with the old laptop with g card..
The wrt160n will go to my parents house...

Now try switching back to "G and N" and see what your connection speeds are at. If they drop too much for you , you can always go back to N only.

... Stay at N and get a cheap Wireless N USB for your G machine 8)
