How are you connected to the router wired or wireless?

What firmware version are you running?

Wired and have latest firmware.

Also, sometimes when opening some sites, it load for a couple of seconds before the page opens up.

Why has my router slow response? It doesnt blink fast when it should.

What kind of internet connection do you have? Cable or DSL?

And what is the make and model of the modem?

Try upgrading the firmware to the EU version and see if that improves it.

Also what DNS addresses are you using?

Are you using securespot?

I don't use it as my ISP has this.
It should be unchecked by default.

Regardless of your connection type to your ISP (DHCP, PPPoE,...), you need at least a DNS server (DNS server will resolve your typed in hostname to IP) to get on the wire. Advanced DNS feature simply fill out these DNS server entries here (http://support.dlink.com/Emulators/dir655/132NA/WAN.html) with DNS servers runs by OpenDNS for D-Link. It has some funky features, but typically it's slower than your ISP DNS servers.

Personally, I prefer Google DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) over my ISP and OpenDNS server. At my place, It is faster than OpenDNS, a little slower than my ISP's but it does not block some sites.

Have you contacted DLink Tech Support yet? I believe it's 24/7. They may be able to assist you for free if your router is under the one year warranty period.

I have no modem.

I have only one problem, and it is:

Youtube videos load very slow, and sometimes they stop loading half way, this is extremely frustrating.

I beg you, please help me...   :'( :'( :'(

Well, there has to be a modem somewhere in order to contact the ISP. If your place is equiped with ethernet jacks then there is a modem located somewhere else, and most likely more devices sharing that connection. Plug the ethernet cable into one of the lan ports instead of the WAN port and see if that has any affect.

But the router must have a cable into wan port to make internet work? Or am i wrong, because I have no modem.

Your computer should be connnected to the LAN port and the modem is connected to the WAN port.

Look at this Diagram (http://www.homenethelp.com/web/diagram/share-router-wireless.asp).

Hi Nina-Sky,

You-Tube monitors the IP Addresses that connects to it. Your Cable Server assigns you an IP Address for your Cable Modem, not the Router. The Router gets your IP Address from the Cable Modem.

The Router doesn't have a cable into the wan port. The Router has a Ethernet Wire that plugs into the Wan Port of the Router from the Cable Modem, itself, not from the Wall.

You are missing a proper Cable Modem. That's why You-Tube loads very slow.

I suggest you contact your Cable Provider and have a Cable Technician come out and check your setup and test your connectivity.

Hi Nina-Sky,

Do you have an IP Address, other than the numbers assigned by the D-Link Router, which are in the 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.0.255?

After signing into your Router's Settings, see your IP Address under WAN.

Your MAC is probably registered. So changing device = changing MAC. And that one isn't registered (yet, depending on the release time).

Hi Nina-Sky,

First of all, you aren't very forth coming with information. You stated that you have an IP Address, but haven't post it.

You never mentioned your Computer or its operating system.

Do you have more than one computer?

Are you having the same problem on all computers?

How about take the router out of the picture, connect your PC directly to your wall-jack or however else you get online and open up a command prompt, do an ipconfig and tell us the IP address you pull?

Actually, don't post your whole public IP if you're getting one, just the first 2 octets would be fine.

Well the way I figure it, their building is hooked up with ethernet and a central server located somewhere within that buildling. Similar New Brunswick and parts of B.C where they are experimenting with Fiber-to-the-Home. Yay, Canada decades behind the U.S. hah. oh well.

So each person in that building is sharing the one connection, whatever it may be. Sure, lan is 100/100 but the actual connection could be something like 50Mbit/5Mbit. So one or more people are torrenting like mad, which the landlord/caretaker is probably participating in. Why wouldn't he? I sure would.

So there really isn't much that can be done other than to bring it up with the buildings caretaker/landlord and perhaps that landlord, if there isn't some sort of decent server/firewall, should be looking into a solution that would involve shaping the traffic or at least distributing the traffic accordingly. If Nina. is getting a public IP address then I am guessing that the building has an alotted amount of IP's purchased through the ISP for each tenant or a modem for each apartment in a central location easily manageable.

It definatly would be something to look into. We could suggest everything in the world to help Nina, but if what I stated IS infact the case, then our efforts will be in vain. Certainly, however, she should stick with using the router as I am sure there is no protection offered in the building.

not necessarily. Nina's flashing could have just coincided with a time of day where people are not using the internet as much.

a friend of mine told me to portforward 8080, 3128 and 80 and the youtube problem would vanish, what do you think about this? what do the ports stand for?
Title: Re: Youtube videos load very slow!!! help plzz
Post by: war59312 on February 04, 2010, 08:35:14 PM
Port 80 is http, as in a web server, www .

Port 8080 HTTP Alternate, which means it too is offten used by web servers.

Port 3128 seems to be used by many proxies.

But I dont see how port forwarding these ports could help with your issue since your not revieing data from youtube on those ports.

Ive now come to a conclusion, and thats, if I open up a youtube video, it stop buffering a couple of seconds into the video, but if I refresh the page, its loads normally, so why do I need to refresh the page one time in most of the videos?

I have 1.31, and was the same with 1.30.

What does http://www.youtube.com/my_speed look like for you?

Youtube has always been super slow for me.

I'm only getting 2.25 while my ISP is supposedly 3.27. That's average according to google.

Yet some times I notice I am getting 11mbps. But most of the time it's like 2mbps. :(

Happens even if not using router, so it's not the router for me, it's just that youtube sucks when it comes to speed.

I easily get a constant 20mbps on other video sites. That's my connection maxed out btw.

Nina-Sky,,  :o I believe that as posted by lotacus, you are experiencing limited bandwidth due to high consumption within your building, plus the probable fact that you need to clear your caches and history. I am on a DIR-655 w/ HV A3 & FV 1.20 and get the youtube speed of 6.4, also clean your computer of other unwanted debris (unused programs, recyc.bin, etc.), and you might need to empty your macromedia (flash player) cache,

edit:
