Title: Does it boot without hds ?
Post by: lazzaro4000 on February 02, 2010, 09:21:45 AM
Hi. I just bought a no/hd DNS-323 unit (the box only).
I'm trying to power on it but it seems it fail.
No fan, no leds. Everything off.

I didn't install any hd drive. The unit is empty.

Is this a normal behaviour ?
Is it necessary to install, at least, an hd unit in order
to permit the unit to boot ?

Thanks.

Yes, with current firmware, you can access the web setup with no drives installed.  This worked for 1.07 and for 1.08, don't know about earlier versions.

Due to the missing "mechanical" power switch, I thought to a "direct power on"
with the power supply.

My bad :)

Thanks
