Title: DWA-556 and DIR-655 speed/connection problems
Post by: cgbick3 on February 02, 2008, 09:29:37 AM
I'm new to wireless, so bear with a newbie.  I have the combo above, and I'm seeing big variations in speed, even when the router is close to the computer and with 100% signal.  The status display on the router fluctuates from 270 to 54, mostly near the 54 end.  I have no other wireless devices (yet), and no cell phones operating at the time.  I'm also seeing dropped connections from time to time.  I'm running Vista HP 32.  Do I have a defective component?  How do I tell which is the problem?

Log into the router and access the Wireless configurations. Change the Wireless mode to 802.11n only. Set the width channel to 20/40 MHz and make sure security is set to WPA and NOT WEP. Save the changes and connect again. Your should be connected at a speed near 300Mbps (depending on the environment).
