Title: I have a question for my router

I just got this router yesterday and it is wicked. It is alot faster then any of my old ones and the wireless has never dropped, but my problem is with ping. I play heavy games like COD4, Portal, BF2142 and it seems that every once a hour my ping would sky rocket. Normally 20-100 then BAM for 5 minutes long at 500-800 then it drops. I have closed all my P2P programs and I only have 3 pcs linked. I'm not sure what the problem is. Could you guys help me out? ??? Thanks a lot.

Are the correct ports open?
Do you have the lastest Firmware installed?
also what type of connection do you have?
Do you have security enabled differently then when you had the previous router hooked up?
