Title: help setting up 825 to optimally run 6 comps on WoW
Post by: vwfreaks_air on February 09, 2010, 05:56:38 PM
Hello,

I am somewhat knowledgeable when it comes to this kind of stuff, but I follow directions really well. So I took a quick look on the forums and after page 10 thought i would just ask for help. I have a plans to have a bunch of friends come over a couple times a month but our first attempt was foiled when the connection crapped out on us and we were unable to stay connected. If anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

how are they hooked up? there is only 4 switch ports. must be using wireless, is it secured? could be a neighbor leeching wireless access to use all your bandwidth.

what do you mean dropped out? sometimes it is just bad timing, but ISPs don't have 100% uptime records. both WoW and ventrilo experience problems or just WoW? how reliable is the bandwidth, do you test the bandwidth often or had you before/after the problems? could try QoS entries for both WoW and ventrilo.

the connection never stopped but we would be randomly kicked from the game server. We were not running ventriilo that night as we were all in the same room. True ISP do not have 100% up times but I have rarely had a problem with the company I am with. I do not often test bandwidth (if you have a suggestion for how to do this that could be helpful). not familiar with QoS, but if it can help just let me know how.

all of you at the same time or one here one there? should try trace routes to the datacenter your server is on, looking for timeouts and high pings between you and the datacenter.

http://www.speedtest.net/ very popular speed test site

http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=1199 has a easy to use trace route tool and doesn't require install

one here one there would disconnect from the server. One guy didnt get dropped at all, while others  couldnt get connected at all.I will look at the sites you posted thanks.  If anyone else has anything to add i will be back to check the forum a couple times this week. night and thanks user 11.
