Ok.. Now i have seen posts saying that it is NOT possible, and also the firmware says it is NOT possible after upgrading past 1.10.. now. issue is no one has said WHY it is not possible.
Is it because of licencing or something with the old firmware vs new? Or is it hardware related?
Reason for asking is doing a search on the www there are a couple sites that have modded firmware that revserses it to 1.01.. and then you can reflash with 101 official if you want.. No one from Dlink has actually said WHY just that it isnt. So if its licence then the moded one should work just fine right?

Can you post the sites that have the instructions.

Someone on the forum here actually sent it to me initially. Just curious.
The link is for the 855 firmware, but also has the 825 in it. Both are the same hardware except one has a lcd and one doesnt.
also 6x model is there as well.
I know sometimes companies find that the firmware or whatever violates a rule or infringes on a copyright so they change it. Obviously it can be reverted, but legaly it cant be. I am curious if thats what happened with this router. Or whats the deal as there are reports that that firmware works.

Just try it, but don't upgrade through the normal web interface.
Hold the reset button for 45 seconds and use the less picky firmware upgrade interface.

As in most cases it's not that you can't (e.g. physically impossible) but rather the manufacturer doesn't want you to. In my opinion thats why you haven't heard any reasons from Dlink why it's not possible.
It's good to hear someone has modded the firmware to allow this.
