Title: GWS settings for DIR 655
Post by: solara on February 16, 2010, 07:37:21 AM
Backed up GWS settings prior to flashing DIR 655 router to 1.33NA. Flashed router and tried to restore GWS settings and getting error message. This is the first time I have had problems restoring the settings after a flash upgrade. Fortunately for me I had printed screen shots. Nice firmware and seems to be stable but please Dlink will someone test the basic funtionality of the router before posting the update. This could be extremly frustrating for a novice.

Are you using HTTPS to access the router web interface? If so, restoring your backup config won't work, it's a known issue. That means if you use plain HTTP, configuration restoration should work.

Logged into the router with address of http://192.168.0.1
Is this incorrect?

You did it correctly.
It must be something else then, you might have been unlucky to download a corrupted gws file. I have heard people experience this issue, I haven't encountered it myself though.

If restoring a GWS from an older FW doesn't work, just go about re-doing it by hand....hopefully you printed out all your important pages before flashing...I don't know if thats a sticky...but it should be....

I'm having the same problem after upgrading from FW 1.21 to 1.3x.  I can't load my .gws settings file to restore the router settings.

There has to be a way to get my settings back.  I didn't bother write it all down because of the feature to save them.

Flash firmware Log into router go to tools click system on the left then click Restore To Factory Default on the right.

Once the router reboots log back in and do the restore of the gws file.

I just did this not 30 min ago and it worked just fine. If you read the notes that came with the firmware it tells you to do a Restore To Factory Defaults before you try to reload your gws file.
