Hi,
Just upgraded to firmware 1.08 tonight. Then I restored the settings back to default and re-entered them in manually just to be safe.
I put in my email info for my Rogers email account (hosted by Yahoo) as follows:
Login method: account
User name: my name (i.e. david)
Password: my password
SMTP server: smtp.broadband.rogers.com
port: 25
Sender E-Mail: info@dns323.com
Receiver E-Mail: my email (i.e. david@rogers.com)
And it still isnt working. Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

The only thing I can think of is making sure you have the correct dns setting in the DNS-323 Lan setup page. I originally had a problem with the email and I entered a dns of 4.4.2.1 and it worked for me.

Many problems are also cured with a factory reset and manual reconfiguration. You will not lose any data doing this.

Try using 'anonymous' instead of 'account', I ran into the same issue last night until I changed the login method.

Under "Sender E-mail" enter in the same exact email as "Receiver E-mail." I ran into the same problem, I did this and it works great. Despite where it says you can enter in any email you want for Sender E-mail, that didn't work for me.

I have different addresses for receiver and sender, and it works just fine. I'm using a verizon.net address for my DNS-323.

I know. Many are using different addresses. For whatever reason, the email settings didn't work for me until I made them both the same. I found the tip somewhere in this forum and it worked in my instance. Not sure why...perhaps it was related to my provider (Comcast).

Wow... that did the trick! Thanks! Strange how the sender email would make a difference. Maybe Rogers has more tighter email controls???

So for anyone having problems here is the final settings that I used to get it to work with my Rogers email account (I suspect other ISPs could be the same or very similiar):
Login method: Account
User name: david@rogers.com <--- sample email address, not my actual
Password: <my password>
Port: 587 <--- port 25 may also work for some ISPs
SMTP server: smtp.broadband.rogers.com
Sender E-Mail: david@rogers.com <--- MUST be the same as receiver email address for Rogers
Receiver E-Mail: david@rogers.com
SMTP Authentication: Yes
Thanks for all the help guys!
HMR.

That is interesting, I'm going to remember that as a possible issue in the future. :)

I just set my email up using gmails smtp server, using account name and smtp authentication and it worked fine. I used different sender and receiver addresses as well. I used port 587. Email use to work fine with my RoadRunner settings but it stopped working one day. I'm at 1.08 as well

I am using the same setup as 007james except I am using port 25 - no problems here:)

I wasn't paying attention earlier on - but - I notice you have the sender's email as info@dns323.com.
You could have a situation where the recipient mail server is checking the "sender' email address" and is unable to resolve it and discards the message as SPAM. This could well be the case for others who say it used to work & suddenly stopped (ISPs and email admins as a rule don't publicise their SPAM control procedures or when they change them)
ISPs and email server administrators are forced to do more & more to curb SPAM - some of the tricks used which can cause problems with the DNS-323 sending mail are ...
1) blocking outbound SMTP traffic that does not originate from the organisations's mail server.
2) requiring the originating ip address of the SMTP traffic to be within their network range.
3) using non standard ports on the SMTP server (I think the DNS-323 now allows you to specify the port)
4) requiring authentication to the SMTP server before mail can be sent (the DNS-323 can be set to do this)
5) domain verification (this is described avove)
6) requiring authentication to the POP3 or IMAP server before mail can be sent.

Glad to help!

My isp is Telus and i've never been able to get the email working with SMTP authentication and i've tried everything listed here. Anybody else have the same issue with Telus? I will open an account with Gmail to see if it works.

Many people use gmail here, so that should work.
