I'm having trouble configuring 1.08 to work with my Sympatico account. Configuration is as follows;
Login method: Account
User name: robert@sympatico.ca <--- sample email address, not my actual
Password: <my password>
Port: 25
SMTP server: smtphm.sympatico.ca
Sender E-Mail: robert@sympatico.ca
Receiver E-Mail: robert@sympatico.ca
SMTP Authentication: Yes
Testing indicates failure. What information did you use with your Sympatico account?

Thanks, I checked that post and several others prior to posting my plea for help.

I am a TSI customer so I can't really assist with Bell but you may have better luck putting this up in Bell Forum @ dslreports.

Never thought of that! Thanks for the idea.

Just a suggestion (I'm not a sympatico user) - the format you are using for the username would not work with either of the two ISPs that I use - try "robert" by itself (drop the @sympatico.ca) and see what happens.

No luck, the test failed.
I did find using using one of Sympatico's real old smtp server names worked.
For those having difficulty using email with Sympatico try changing the SMTP server name from smtphm.sympatico.ca to smtp1.sympatico.ca. Worked for me. Go figure!

smtphm.sympatico.ca SMTP server authentication requires SSL, which is not yet available in firmware v1.08. Thanks for the older server ;)

Now I understand why! Thanks for the explanation.
