Title: Confused - access permissions
Post by: alanbrowne on February 20, 2010, 06:27:08 PM
I want to set up my -323 such that:

1) The base Volume_1 is accessible to everyone.
2) Various folders in Volume_1 are accessible to everyone.
3) Some folders there require a login (name / password)
4) Access is from a Mac and PC - all on the same side of the FW.

Whenever I set one of the sub folders to a named access and pw, then Volume_1 and all need that name and password.

I'm quite confused. :-\

Is there a general writeup on this somewhere?

They changed the authentication method going from v1.06 to v1.08

Now with v1.08 if you have 1 share that is "password protected" all share even those marke "All"
will need to have a username in the DNS-323 user list....

Sucks, but that's the way it is.  I'd really like get get that functionality back, I really like mixing the permissions.

Thanks gunrun and Buhric,

If I understand you correctly, it is impossible to have an anonymous share with 1.08 while an access controlled folder exists?

Does this apply to the FTP as well, or can it maintain an anonymous session?

Thx.

That's a SAMBA restriction, I think you can still have anonymous FTP accounts with passworded ones.  Note that I haven't actually tried this, but it's not dependent on SAMBA, so I suspect it didn't change.

Thanks.  Looks like the DNS-323 will be returned.
