Hi all,
Just have bought a new external HDD LG HXD3. When I connect it to DSM-520 USB port nothing happens. My DSM-520 refuses to discover HDD. When I plug a flash card everything works just fine.
Any suggestions?
Thank you!

Make sure you are using the drives provided power supply.

The problem is that this HDD doesn't have a power supply. It uses only USB connection.
I suppose that USB port on DSM-520 doesn't supply enough voltage to make HDD on.
Maybe there is a special firmware that increases voltage on USB port?

Unfortunately no on the firmware and I think you are correct. The USB port on the DSM-520 is not designed to power USB devices.

Hi ECF,
I have solved the problem! I've bought a USB power supply and connected the HDD to DSM-520 and to power supply with Y USB cable. Now it's working and I'm able to use my external HDD! ;D
I've attached pictures maybe it will help others.
