Hi all,
Just picked up a DNS 323 and hooked it up for the first time (diligently following the instructions in the booklet) but I'm having some issues. When I run the Easy Search utility it discovers the device just fine (and lists it with the IP 192.168.0.32) but when I choose the device and go to configure it, the option to configure is greyed out. I've also tried connecting directly to the device's IP trough my browser, it never connects.
Can anyone help me out?

Additional info:
Vista 64
direct cable connection (with included cable)
both network and HD lights are on in front and LAN seems to be showing some sort of activity
tried resetting, changing the IP

First step for me would be to do a factory reset of the NAS.
Have you tried connecting it to your router and letting DHCP assign the IP address? Then you can see if that works.

Is the IP address static or dynamic?
it would be alot easier to configure the NAS if the IP address is set to static

Since the symptom is he can't access the drive configuration, that would be pretty difficult, no?

Firewall problem? Do you have a firewall running?

No firewall running, unfortunately. I've disabled windows' and I don't have another.
I've tried accessing it through the utility with it set to Receive DHCP both disabled and enabled (under LAN settings) but it makes no difference.
It's frustrating because the utility can 'see' the unit, but doesn't grant access to any settings whatsoever. Could there be some setting in windows that I need to play around with?

Gunrunnerjohn suggested you connect it to a router - this is the normal method of use.
Are you still trying to set it up with a direct connection? If you are it won't work unless you configure a static ip address on the network card that the DNS-323 is connected to - try 192.168.0.31 - please note, if this is a system with two network cards and you are using the other card to connect to the internet, you could find yourself in bigger trouble, in which case connect the DNS-323 to the router like john suggested.

Ah, ok, sorry about that, I didn't read the earlier responses correctly.
Yes, it's directly connected to my computer. I'll try it through my router tonight.

Also, for a factory reset - is that simply with the reset hole in the back? If so, I've done that.

If it is connected directly to the PC, does it require a cross-over cable? Just wondering.

So I did as was suggested and connected it through my router instead of directly to my computer. Lo and behold the router assigned an IP and I had full access!

No - most gigabit devices don't.
