Hi Guys,
I just purchased DNS323 and have Gigabit network setup with PC with gigabit NIC card, DIR-655 router & DNS-323. I tested it by coping with 2GB file from PC to DNS323. The process starts with 19GByte/sec for 1 sec and then starts decreasing continuesly and slowly to 10GByte/sec.
Is this normal? If not, what I can do to fix this problem?
Thanks,
-
What you are experiencing is called "BURST TRANSFER RATE", yes this is normal. It will also have varying degree's depending on your network topography. My BURST transfer rate is about 3-4Mb/s different than my CONSTANT transfer rate.
Hope this helps

The estimate always starts high and works down as a history is established. The base speed will also be very dependent on the file sizes of the transfer, smaller files will be slower than larger files.

Thanks Tank_killer & Gunrunnerjohn for your input.
Is 10MByte/sec is normal/good spead for 2GB file size?
Thanks,
-
Actually, no. :) You should be getting mid-teens if you have gigabit and are using jumbo frames.
-
Then please guide me to get the mid-teen speed. I tried to test with Jumbo frames but my speed drastically decreased to 6MByte/S. I don’t know if my Dlink router DIR-655 supports jumbo frame also I don’t know how should I activate jumbo frame in my PC (Win7). I have Intel 82566DC-2 Gigabit NIC on motherboard.
Please guide me to activate jumbo frame in my router and PC, to attain the good speed.
Thanks,

on a quick google search your router does NOT support jumbo frames as suspected. I can reccomend a couple of things. Connect your DNS right to your PC and setup a temporary static network (google is your freind), then try a transfer (2gb+ size). If you acheive the same speeds then there might be an issue with your client PC (malware ect), or buy a decent switch that DOES support jumbo frames and put your PC and DNS on it.
Oh, and make sure your network cables are in good condition.
good luck

Thanks tank_killer for your input. I will try as you said.
