Title: Adding 2nd HDD

I have my DNS-321 set up with 1TB hard drive at the moment.  I want to add a second hard drive without losing any of the information on my first drive.  Can it be done? If yes, how so?

If I wanted to, could I set up the second drive as a mirrored raid or would that wipe the data from my first drive?

Well, first off, you should have a backup before you do anything like this.

It is supposed to be possible to add the second drive and configure the RAID, but there have also been reports of the NAS formatting the wrong drive, hence my suggestion that you have backup!

So I finally filled up my first 1TB hard drive and I'm ready to add a second to the unit to expand my storage.

Can I use a different brand of hard drive and different size on the second slot? say 1.5TB?

To ensure that the wrong hard drive will not be formatted, can I remove my filled hdd while I format the new hdd and then put the filled hdd back in and retain the same drive remapping on my computers?

If you're using the volumes separately, I'd highly recommend you remove the one with data to format the other one.  You can then replace it after you're done formatting the new volume.
