Title: Streaming video/sharing video files to PS3 problem.
Post by: Djay on March 07, 2010, 04:22:10 AM
Ive had my DNS-323 for a few months now. Basically i bougth it to share some files in my home network, and to stream video to my PS3.

Lately ive noticed that when i add new video to my DNS-323 the video does not always show in my file list from the PS3. The files are in the same subfolder and the file format is the same as the files that actually show. Also... I noticed that if i copy the files to another folder on the NAS the files show.

I tried both using the refresh button under the UPnP Server advanced settings and turning the device off/on with no luck.

A bit frustrating. Anyone who can help me resolve this?

You don't want the PS3 browsing a folder that files are being copied to. You will likely get an error code. What I often do is turn off the PS3, copy the new files, do a manual UPNP refresh on the DNS, and then turn the PS3 on afterwards. Hope this helps.

Hi DJay,

I face the same issue as you. My DNS-323 is currently v.1.07 and when I add new videos to DNS-323, the PS3 is not able to list the new videos. However, it is able to display the old videos. Even if I did a manual refresh in DNS-323, the PS3 still does not list the new videos.

The weird thing is after a few days the PS3 list the new videos. I had not faced this issue in the earlier firmwares (v.1.04 if I recall correctly).

could it be that the PS3 uses a localy cache listing of the folder?

Try this .... make sure you can see all files / folders from the PS3

Delete 1 file on the DNS-323... do a manual refresh of the media list in the DNS-323
and take a look at you PS3 file list... did the file you deleted still there ?

Try exisiting out of the "Media Player" section of the PS3 and entering it again... is the deleted file still there ?... try turning off the power to PS3, and try again...

Try doing the same thing, but this time adding 1 file to the DNS-323

I experience the same kind of thing with new files. They don't show up or I get an DNLA error. Running 1.07

All I know is this for a fact:

If I do a uPnP refresh it always works, provided that the ps3 is turned off the whole time.

If the ps3 is turned on at any time during this process, it frigs up. Also if I add files to the dns-323 while the PS3 is running, I find my chance that they will show up later through the dns's route refresh is much less.

Do you also have problems with playing the video files on the PS3 via the DNS?  Some files (.avi) won't play on my PS3 if it's over the network (via DNS-323), but when I copy it to a usb drive and play if on the PS3 from the drive, it plays just fine.

Ican't say for a PS3, but the XBox360 has a similar problem.... And usualy its because the filepath+Filename is too long.

For the Xbox 360, if it over about 70 chars, it still shows up in the menu, but it wont play.
If I shorten the names, everything is ok....
