Since v1.08 is now out which finally supports ext3, I want to reformat (yes I am aware you can convert ext2 to ext3, but it's not quite the same as if you go ext3 from the format) as ext3 along with updating the firmware.
Now, I do have enough drive space on my local systems to make a copy of all the backup files on the NAS just in case I have to restore them that way, however since doing a local drive to drive copy is MUCH faster, I would prefer to do it that way.
My thought on the process is to remove a drive from the NAS, flash 1.08 to the system and wipe out the connected drive and reformat it as ext3. I'm unsure if it will let me configure a RAID 1 volume with just the one drive, though assuming it does, I was then going to make sure auto-rebuild is *disabled* in the UI and then plug in the drive I had removed before the flash. I would then manually copy files (since it's ext2 to ext3) to the new ext3 drive, then wipe out the old drive and format it as ext3 as well. Then, I would have it sync up the files from the one drive to the other and have all my files back.
Now, there's quite a few chances of me losing the data... but I want to know if anyone has done anything similar to this, and if so what steps you took to ensure it worked out in the end?

The steps are simple, HAVE A BETTER BACKUP! :)

Sadly, that wasn't helpful at all.

I'm sure - it doesn't.

Well, my point is if you value your data, you are playing with fire screwing around with the only copy of it. Your data, your risk... ::)

If you read, I did say that I was also making a copy to my workstation(s) just in case... but that I would prefer to do a disk to disk restore of the data.

Thanks for the verification... I was afraid this may be the case.
