I though Dlink had finally done a half decent job on the software till I tried the playback option, I just installed this on 2 different quad core rigd, fresh install of Win 7 64bit and a 32 bit win 7 pro. I will check the 32 bit rig tomorrow but so far I cant view anything that has been recorded.

Have you tried lowing the screen-resolution? On my 64-bit Vista box anything above 1280x1024 will kill Playback on resolution error. On the 32-bit Vista boxes and 32-bit W7 boxes all is well, as long as it is not too high in resolution. And the non 4:3 screen ratio might also be an issue... I scaled down from 1900x1200 in steps until 1280x1024, that seems to work fine. Don't like it tho', but hey at least it indicates where the problem lies...
-
I lowered resolution to 1280 x 1024 - still same problem
for playback when you click on the button 'open record' then it never goes any farther and get the error.
the main console is ok and can view with the camera just no playback.
-
Ok, so there is another problem. I have not been able to start Playback, let alone open a stored recording. What is your hardware config wrt memory and video-card?
-
Dell Optiplex 780
Intel Core2 Duo E8400 3.00GHz
8 GB Memory
windows 7 pro 64 bit
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 420 (using 3 monitors)
-
the recordings are saved as .dat files? - can it be changed to save as .mpeg - then i could playback in windows media player ?!?!?
-
Hardware looks OK, video card should be sufficient (even though D-Link suggests ATI), so that is not the problem. But is seems that there still are a few 64-bit issues and kinks that need ironing out.
Only within Playback.exe can you convert to (low-quality) AVI or (multiple levels of quality) ASF. But you will need the Playback service. You can define a Network Service and Playback from remote as a work-around, but that needs a second machine, DviewCam 3.0 installed there and a good speedy connection.
Mind you, I am only an enthousiast, without any connection to 'the D Company', so don't flame me, please...

is D-Link working on this issue ???
maybe I should be returning this camera and looking to another company for one where all the pieces work...
-
I uninstalled it and reinstalled and it worked, this new version is so much slower than the older ones and you cant move it to a secondary or third monitor because it defaults to the default monitor that I went back to blue iris.

Shame. I know there are a few items left to be desired (like full screen behaviour [was gone in 2.04+], performance, control, bugs), but all in all it is not a bad product. If you are used to another product, then yes, go there...
-
well - I had to reinstall OS and all apps on my machine.. Had an issue where I could not get my nic to hold an IP and could not get on net work. anyways - after reintall of OS and all apps - the playback still is not working...
-
i have got the playback working now.
3 monitors seems to have been the problem.
when i first setup machine - the monitor on the very left was main with the windows start button. I changed it so the middle was main with start button. every time i open any dview window - they all opened on the very left monitor. playback not working.
I switched back so the left monitor was main with start button and tried the playback and it worked. the dview windows opened in the left monitor and playback ran. (also note monitor resolution is 1400x1050)
I confirmed the above by playing with the monitors and trying to run dview.
-
So, if I understand correctly, the amount of monitors connected, and the relationship to the 'main' monitor (having the start-button) makes such an impact, you get an Apphang? Ok, that is something different.
Hopefully the guys at D-Link can find out what happened, but this points them in the right direction. If they now would also make the screens moveable and not use full-screen (2.04+ had that option, but would skew ratio displayed on screen), we would be helped out. I was planning to go multi-screen as my card "only" supports 2 monitors, but thanks for finding this out.

Thank you for your input everybody and we are currently looking into these issues. We will be on top of this software and updating as needed to ensure quality. We will be releasing 3.01 in the near future here after we are done with some further testing.
-
Perfect. And the other issues, like screen resolution in 64 bits, local playback date/time selection options, multi-channel playback (both local and remote), multi-channel remote live-viewer, and a few more, are also addressed? Perfy!
Making a good product even better is a very lofty goal. Any idea on ETA, or do you need Beta-testers?
I volunteer...

Please see if they will also fix it where you can grab the window and move it to another monitor instead of being locked to the main one. I used ultramon and got it where I could move it but its a pain, all monitors have to be the same resolution as it wont resize when moved with ultramon....

But V3.01 (the one gotten from Taiwan) still has the monitor-hoarding behaviour. You (ECF) are probably talking about 3.20? That one is not coming out shortly. I have not seen that many improvements between V3.00 and V3.01....
EDIT: V2.04 and V2.05 were non-hoarding versions, but buggy...
-
haven't seen a better version yet than dview cam 1.40. it's got its little bugs and it doesn't do everything that you'd want it to (and it's not pretty), but it doesn't hog a whole screen and can be moved from one monitor to another. seems like the idiots who designed these later versions thought that we'd want to be using our computers only for surveillance. pretty stupid. i've tried every new version that's shown up, but always wind up going back to the 1.40.

So you have tried V2.04 and V2.05? I found them non-hoarding, but I am not able to compare to 1.40, as I have started on V2.x when buying the cameras, not supported prior to V2.x...
