Title: DIR-855 Connection
Post by: GhostRider on March 11, 2010, 09:46:21 PM
New user, can anyone tell me how to configure the 855 with a SBG1000 Motorola Cable Modem thru Road Runner. It keeps posting conflicts between Internet side and Lan side.

Please clarify something.  What are you trying to accomplish by connecting a DIR-855 to a SBG1000 cable modem?  From a quick look at the manual http://broadband.motorola.com/consumers/products/sbg1000/downloads/SBG1000_User_Guide.pdf (http://broadband.motorola.com/consumers/products/sbg1000/downloads/SBG1000_User_Guide.pdf) it appears that the SBG1000 has within it most of the functionality for which one would normally buy a DIR-855.

Is it, perhaps, that you want faster wireless speeds than the SBG1000 alone can provide?  (The SBG1000 implements 802.11b, while the DIR-855 implements the faster 802.11n.)  If so, it is possible that what you want is to use the DIR-855 in "bridge mode," which is what my parallel thread in this Forum is all about.

Have you considered using the DIR-855 instead of (rather than, together with) the SBG1000?  This might be an option if the antenna would be well placed.

If you can explain what your goal is, we can provide a better answer.

Thank you for the info, Ihave set it up as a bridge and it works fine. I couldn't get the DHCP to work with the SBG1000, it kept giving me conflicts between the Lan side and the SBG side.
When you say use it by itself without the SBG100, would I have to purchase a new cable modem to hook into, since the SBG does'nt have Wan port? Is there a faster cable modem out there that is compatible with Road Runner and put out gig ports? I only found 1 made by Motorola that is newer, but still only has 10/100 ports.
