Title: Turn router into Switch

I have 2 routers on my network and realized that I should convert the second (DGL-4500) into a switch, to avoid problems using remote desktop behind the second router.

I've tried disabling DHCP and changing the router IP to 192.168.10, as the first router is a linksys. As soon, as I make these changes, however, I am without internet access.

What am I doing wrong?

Make sure your not using the WAN port of the 4500 what your turning into a switch. Just use the LAN ports. That should work however I have not try this as of yet. I should since I have 2. And yes DHCP has to be turned off. Let us know how this goes.


Update, I tried it, all you have to do is shut off DHCP server and connect all cables to LAN ports. Enjoy.

Am also interested in using my DGL 4500 as a switch. My router connected to the internet is a DIR 855. So do I havo to connect the 4500 via LAN, not WAN with the 855?
Anything else I have to keep in mind?

if you want to turn your 4500 into a switch, go into the Basic/Network and disable the DHCP service. Save the settings and reboot if asked. Once it's done, connect your cables to the LAN ports. Don't use the WAN port or it won't work. Just the LAN ports. I tested this myself and it works.
