Title: can see/mount \\dns323\Volume_1 but directory is missing
Post by: jerryjmcconnell on March 13, 2010, 05:44:15 PM

Was running 1.07 when problem occured and have just upgraded to 1.08 but no change.

looking in \\dns323\Volume_1 shows it empty (I have 'show hidden files' enabled)

Now I know created a D-Link directory so I mounted that manually and all my files are there!

All my file repair utilities only works on local drives, not a NAS like this. Something must be corrupt? Or is this some sort 'feature ' that I am missing :)

I just re-read my post and thought it may need a little clarification.

mounting \\dns323\Volume_1 shows no files

mounting \\dns323\Volume_1\D-Link show all my files.

Some how, the D-Link directory entry on Volume_1 seems to have disappeared? Any suggestions on how to recover that.

Otherwise I will be forced to copy all the files off the drive and then reformat and copy back?

Dunno if this will help... but try doing a Reset using the button in the back of the DNS-323 (hold for 30 sec) then see if the folder / files show up...

don't reload the settings with a previously saved file....

okay...after a lot of testing it seems that this problem is reproducible...I can reset and it all comes back for awhile and then disappears again...

...I now suspect the HDD sleeping and not waking up correctly...I will update this when I figure it out...

...the plot thickens....the drive that seems to consistently disappear is a Seagate ST31500341AS..looks like there are some firmware issues with that line of drives...will start another post..
