Title: Occasionally slow print speeds

I have my DIR-655 set up to print on a wired USB HP Laserjet 1018. I am running a connection with a laptop and a desktop, both XP SP3. Occasionally, I find that it takes a minute for the print job to load (from the laptop, haven't tried this much with desktop). Is there a reason for this? Most of the time it prints about as quick as when I was sending print jobs to the printer via a USB cable.
