Title: Multi DDNS
Post by: extrememc on March 19, 2010, 09:40:28 AM
I have my mediasmart server with a DDNS provided by HP. I would like to set my NAS for ftp on a DDNS. How can I do this using the DDNS in the router? I would also like to change the ftp from 21 to a uncommon one for better security.

Hi extrememc,

Do you have to use the DDNS settings on your HP?

I have a similar setup but I chose not to use the DDNS on the FTP server, and just used my routers DDNS.
The only thing that you have to do is to setup your server in the "Viritual Servers List" (ADVANCED, VIRTUAL SERVER).

Your input would be something like "FTP Server" as server/application name, and it's IP address, and a port of your choice as "Public" and port 21 as "Private".

In addition you'll need to set up "Port Forwarding Rules" (ADVANCED, PORT FORWARDING) with name "FTP Server" and it's IP address together with the port range (look for this information in the documentation for the FTP server as they should match your input in the router. Typically information (examples) should be in the documentation.

Then you should be ready to access your FTP server from outside. :o)
