Title: FW 1.04 to 1.08 - Cannot login to the device anymore - even after hard reset
Post by: sekser on March 29, 2010, 10:14:14 AM
I bought a pair of 1.5tb Seagates to replace the 2 500gb in there now. It's been working without issues since I purchased the unit last year on FW 1.04.

I downloaded the 1.08 FW from dlink's website, went into the web setup and successfully updated.  After the reboot, the admin / no password will not work. Says page cannot be displayed.

I have tried hard reset using the unit a few times now and still cannot login.

I can get to the login page, so I know the IP i'm putting in is right. Just when I type admin  and no password and click on configuration, it goes straight to page cannot be displayed.

I tried this in IE8, Firefox (Win 7 Pro), and also Safari on Mac 10.6.

I've also tried from the easy search utility, the device shows up, I click on configuration, takes me to the login page and doesn't accept the default login.

Any ideas on how I can get my unit working again?

additional info:

Tried disabling Windows Firewall.
Tried manually setting IP after hard reset.
Tried direct connect to PC instead of to my DIR-655 Router.
Tried putting my original 500gb HD's back in

Is there a way to downgrade my FW via some kind of backdoor since I can't login to the web configuration pages anymore?

How were you able to assign a static IP on the unit if you are unable to login to the config page?

using the easy search utility... You can type in the IP, Netmask, GW and apply it. You have to turn off dhcp using the utility first, then it allows you to put your own.

I believe there is a reset button on the back of the unit which will do a factory restore -- you probably want to pop your drives out first though just to be safe.

Good that you got the RMA... sounds like the FW may be corrupt in your box.  I didn't realize that you could assign the static IP from the Easy Search.... then again, I have never really used it.

I read somewhere that you have to press the backside reset button for ~30s to get a factory reset, otherwise you get a restart...

Don't know if it's right  ;D
