Title: nat issue with xbox360
Post by: stilltokin on April 05, 2010, 05:53:37 PM
i cant seem to get my nat type open for my 360. i have dsl and have a gateway/router.  if i plug it into that the nat type is open but if i plug it into or use wireless on the dgl 4500 my nat type is moderate.  i have gone into the settings and opened all the right firewall ports and designated an ip address for the 360. i have to plug the dgl 4500 into the gateway my dsl provider gave me i dont know if thats the problem or not. any help would be appreciated

is your DSL modem setup for transparency or standard, if it's set up for standard, its probably giving off a private IP address. Check this by looking at the WAN status section under Status, Device Info. If the WAN IP address is a 192.168 number then your NAT is closed. You need to ensure the DSL modem is set up to give a public IP address which is starts with a 2 character address, ##.##.###.###. This will open your NAT on the 4500 and you'll be able to connect better on the 360. Look at the ATT DSL posting I listed here for DSL issues and also review my Gaming and Gamefuel sticky for settings.  Let us know how this goes.

Sounds like your modem/gateway is set to operate as a router.  Try calling your ISP and ask if they can configured your modem in bridge mode.  If not, try logging into the modem/router and enable DMZ and give it the WAN IP address of your DGL-4500.
