Hi All,
I've just successfully upgraded my DNS 323 from 2x Seagate 7200.11 1TB drives to 2x WD20EARS 2TB drives.
They successfully formatted to EXT3 in a RAID1 mirror. I think we can add these to the compatibility list

I just put a DNS-323 together with two Samsung Spinpoint F3EG HD203WI drives simply in JBOD mode. Works great for me.
Already half full :-\
Will probably need to buy another DNS-323 with a couple more 2tb drives :P

I thought according to WD website the 4K sector issue only affects Windows; Linux and MacOS are meant to be unaffected.
Well I ran a few tests and my writes have dropped from 18MB/s down to 13MB/s but my reads are still between 30MB/s and 40MB/s. I'd put the write drop to EXT3 with journalling instead of the 4K sector issue.
Can DLINK confirm whether the Linux version of their kernal for the DNS 323 has issues with 4K sectors?
So far I don't think I am having any issues except with the 1.08 Bittorrent client not working.

My write speed has dropped from 15MB/s to 10-12MB/s using this HDD. Read is the same at 10MB/s.
How were you able to manage a read of 20-40MB/s? I'm using jumbo frames at 7 MKU on both my LAN card and DNS 323 over a gigabit network

I have tried to install the same drives as standalone volumes, using firmware 1.08. They are detected correctly, but everytime the format stops around 14% and the NAS completely stops responding to any input. I am unable to connect to it through the web interface or even shut it down with the front panel, it has to be unplugged. The hard drive status lights are also 'pink' in color, for both drives.
I've searched through the forums and found multiple posts pertaining to the 4k sector issue, but they seem to do more with performance than the initial format. Admittedly I am not very experienced with Linux, but assume I can't even install funplug without first formatting the drives once, correct?
Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated!

After upgrading to firmware 1.08 I was able to format my WD20EARS drive and now I'm transferring files to it. Seems to work fine so far.

Can I ask what settings you used for the format? ie EXT2 or EXT3, single disk or RAID, etc. Last night I hooked the drives up to another machine, and wiped all the existing (apparently corrupted) partitions from them. I then reset the 323 to factory defaults and rebooted it.
Put in one drive, detected and started format. This time it got past 14% but locked up at 43%. Just to be sure I let it run overnight (over 12 hours) and it never budged. Again the 323 stopped responding.

any news on this? i got one drive working but the second one is giving me trouble. i'm sadly hoping its just a bad drive.
