Title: Router problem with DSL Modem
Post by: awaisuk on April 17, 2010, 02:39:45 PM
Router problem with DSL Modem.

When I connect directly to modem my internet is working perfectly, full speeds.

When I connect the modem to router so I can have wireless and wired to other computers, the internet speed is not constant and unstable.

The internet always goes up and down all the time. Sometime it takes alot of time to load a page.

I have the latest firmware for DIR 655 still the same problem.

I even tried bridge mode and inserted PPOE information in Router, but still same problem.

If Internet is working fine on Modem, then it must be something wrong in Router.

Router is also Factory default settings, so I have not changed anything.

What can be the problem?

Thanks.

Hi,

Often these type of wireless issues are from having neighbors using the same wireless chaannels as yours.  Personally, I use channel 3 for my main channel as it is less used around here...most routers default to channel 6, so 6 can get very crowded these days....

You might want to test setting the WAN port to either 10 or 100.  Leaving it to Auto has been reported to cause speed issues.

I have tried changing the channel to some other. It did not help as far as I know.

Also what do you think I should set it to? 10 or 100?

The majority of users leave the WAN port set to AUTO....
