My DNS 323 worked fine 2 days ago,
i can no longer see it on my network using 2 different routers (smc cable modem with built in router and tp-link gigabit switch)
All my firewalls are off, I used windows 7. Tried both the smc and tplink, even direct in to my computer. Hard Reset by the reset button in the back, Easy search cannot find it, and the 192.168.0.32 ip cannot connect.
Ive also tried diff ethernet cables and cycling off and on my computer and smc and tplink unit
i usually have my smc internet cable modem plugged into my tplink switch with my other devices, ive tried using them each on there own to troubleshoot with no luck.
the unit is about 4 months old and had just stopped responding.
any suggestions

ok i dunno what i did but im able to see it via dlink easy search and can get into it via weblogon under ip 99.233.170.75. It just sorta appeared. But still cant access or map any of the drives

Top of the list, do a factory reset and reconfigure and see if that get's it's mind right. Your data will still be there after the factory reset.
-
did that already i think, you just hold the reset button and power it on right?
its back on its original ip now of 192.168.0.32, but now i cannot weblogin
-
Use EasySearch to find it.
-
i do and easysearch utility does find it, but im not able to mount the drives through the program. only get the ip that its on
and some times when i do find it in easysearch i can use the ip to weblogon and some times i cannot

i have the same problem. the only thing i was able to do was to format the hard drives on the pc and then have DNS-323 reformat it again. after all the reformatting of the hard drive, it eventually works as normal. I called up the tech support and they were unhelpful.
-
um, i have like 20 hds i have full of files do i have to format every drive? or can i just put in a fresh drive and format that?
id reallly really really be mad, if i had to lose 20 tbs of files
ill try and new empty and hope it works ><

formatted a blank 1.5 tb drive, no joy, i can see it in easy search, but when i highlight the volume the connect button is still greyed out and unclickable on any drive letter

Sounds like a call to D-Link tech support, maybe it's died? I don't see issues remotely like this with either my DNS-323 or the DNS-321.
-
I'd say he has network issues that need to be resolved as the first step.
For starters - the DNS-323 will not normally be at 192.168.0.32 unless there is no DHCP server, and at one point he is finding it at 99.233.170.75, which I would consider as highly unusual.
Another pointer - when he finds it with easy search, sometime he can login and other times not - easy search uses broadcast technology to locate the device, and will allow you to set the ip address, but unless the ip address is set correctly (ie to an address within the same logical network) it remains unreachable, by any other means.

Maybe a complete description of the network is in order. :)

i can that :P
my main computer ---------------------------Tp link TL SG2109web ( 8 port gigabit switch )
Dlink dns 323 ---------------------------------Tp link TL SG2109web
SMC D3GN cable modem ---------------------Tp link Tl SG2109web (4 port router as well, dont use it as one
2nd computer----------------------------------Tp link Tl SG2109web
everything is plugged into the tplink
right now my dlink has a ip of 99.233.170.75
i can access it via weblogon, and easysearch but cant connect drives
this is the same set up ive been using for about 4 months , when 2 days ago it suddenly stopped, around the time i updated to firmware 108

You don't have a router, so you're trying to network with public network connections? ??? You need a router first, which will probably solve this issue!
-
ive been doing that way for months, and it stopped.
my smc cable modem has a router in it ive tried going through that too, and i get the same issues
-
I suggest trouble-shooting this with a router, it'll make it much easier to sort it out.
-
ok ive had some success.
i took my comupter off obtain ip address auto, and assigned it 192.168.0.2 and conecting to the 8 port swtich with the dlink attached, and on its default ip of 192.168.0.32 i was able to fully connect to my dns 323 and both drives.
the seconnd i plug my cable modem/router in, it tears everthing down and assigns the dlink the 99.233.170.75 ip address
now i cant seem to connect to the web admin on my smc router 192.168.2.1 pulls up nothing
grrr!!
guess its over to the smc/rogers internet forums now heheh

I don't think your SMC is a modem/router, or you wouldn't be getting a public IP address. Care to share the exact model with us?
-
SMCD3GN
and it turns out this was my problem!!!!
over at my ISP forums (where the modem/router was supplied to me by) it seems they are really poorly designed and it requires multiple hardware resets to get it back functioning properly. I had to factory reset it 11 times in a row till one finally took.
so it seems it was my routers problems DNS 323 is back into operation.
thank god
and smc you can burn in hell!!
:P

Sounds like a real piece of... :)
