Title: Wow, what gives with the Shareport USB transfer rates?

Plugged up my 1TB WD USB drive to the router and tried copying a 1GB movie file I have and was getting a WHOPPING 46k transfer rate, yes, I said 46k. At that rate, it would have taken quite some time to finish the file transfer. I upgraded to the latest Shareport software, but that made no difference, and often, while simply trying to browse the drive in My Computer, it would simply hang. I'm new at this router, just bought it today, so can anyone tell me if this is normal, or give me some tips to maybe speed it up? If this is the best it can do wirelessly, I might not be able to use this particular feature.....it just wont be practical.

Hi there,


I have had this router for sometime and it has some serious issues. Just browse through the forums for countless posts of misery with this router.

I would return this router and get your money back asap.

Dlink should do a public recall of this product !!! Two years of firmware development and still problems!!!
(No matter what the product maybe, if there are "underlying hardware issues" some can never be resolved  with software patching -if so without detrimental effects to performance, etc  !!!)


This is my opinion only based on my experiences and may not be what others are having ....


My Dlink 655 looks good as a door stop :D

Thanks, but I like the performance of the router, outside of this USB issue, plus it works seamlessly with 2 XBOX 360's, allowing both to have open NAT's, while on at the same time. If this is just the way it is, that's ok, I would rather have a great performing router, that doesn't have functional USB sharing.

Anyone care to confirm whether these are typical transfer rates, or do I have some sort of problem?

Last I heard, in order to prevent overheating of the Router's processor, the transfer rates have been severely limited. You have to remember this is Dlink proprietary tech, this isn't NAS. If you want fast speeds, get a NAS box and plug it into one of the Ethernet ports in the back and you will get great speeds. You will also be able to max out your wireless connection too.

Just my .02 cents here....

Shareport is a TOTAL KLUDGE...frankly its pretty amazing it works at all....

They have tried to make it do too many things. END OF STORY.

As the other poster mentioned...pony up a few bux and get a NAS unit for your use, you will be much happier and far less frustrated....

As for my situation, I am likely going ot have to pony up some bux too to get a USB print server that won't get flaky anytime I change my system hardware or replace my system entirely....not that it happens often, but it does happen, and there is some sort of bug in shareport working fluidly with Windows 7 x64..... DLink should reimburse me for my supplies trying to debug this thing....
