Title: Where to go from D-ViewCam 1.40 on XP
Post by: hoohah on April 28, 2010, 12:03:16 AM
I got D-ViewCam v1.40 with my two DCS-5300G cameras and for the last 6-8 months I have been running that on my XP Media Center SP3 system (Core2 at 2.4 GHz, 2GB RAM, ATI Radeon X1900 CrossFire, one monitor at 1280x1024).  What is my best upgrade path to newer versions of the software?

Upgrade to 2.04?  Will I be able to import my tree of existing recordings and play them back in 2.04?  Do I need to install v2 alongside v1 and start a new v2 tree so I can still play v1 recordings?

Upgrade to 3.0?  Same questions re compatibility and setup.

D-ViewCam 3.0 would be the best option. You cannot import your camera configuration. Just create and new one and start over it is well worth it. You can install both application and just stop running 1.4 in case something comes up in the next few weeks which those recording are needed. Or just leave it installed and not running, either way..

Thanks for the confirmation that 1.4 and 3.0 are incompatible but can sit side by side.  I got that impression from reading the 3.0 manual but I didn't find any docs or posts or pages that actually said so.  I'll give 3.0 a try!

You will be happily surprised! Controls are somewhat different, but not too unlogical. There should remain something to wish for, or life would be dull...
