Hi there, I have 2 x 1.5tb HDD in a Standard setup, for some reason Vol 2 could not be seen on explorer so I did a restart and now both cannot be seen.
Is there still a Fix disk?? disk tool still somewhere on 1.09 the Seagate utility says the disks are fine but the disk scan on the 323 says "Fail"
apart from that, any repair program that I can run on either on the 323 or I can take out a disk at a time and connect via USB on my PC...that will possibly fix without having to reformat,
-for example to get a drive letter for Testdisk to find it requires the disk to be formatted...
any ideas??

Hi there
You could connect the hard drives to a PC that has a spare SATA connection and use a Windows Linux file system driver to access the drives in read-only mode. If you are using Linux, you can read the drives without a driver.
If you have a USB-SATA hard disk enclosure it's even easier.
It seems odd that both disks would suddenly fail at the same time. If Seatools says they are OK it's more likely an issue with the DNS-323 I would have thought.
Either way, make sure you've got a copy of the data from the drives and back it up somewhere in case of impending doom.

thanks, I'll give it a try next,
I think it may have been from backing it up, but it's gone from Vol 2 to Vol 1 which would make it the wrong way around..lucky I backed up the main files to a 3rd backup disk which I hope is ok.
I've been running HDD regenerator on vol 2 for over a day now and its found no bad sectors yet..it's still going..
It seems very strange to me as well.maybe a virus??
I'll keep you posted
Cheers

Well there is something strange here...when I do a reboot sometimes it shows up under network sometimes not, but Windows says it can't access the Dlink.
The HDD appears OK but I can't see the files, and I really don't want to reformat.
I can log into the 323 without a problem via web page.
It looks like a 323 issue as Jamie said and it has affected the HDD's, or the other way round something on the hard disc has stuffed the 323?
Maybe a renstall of 1.09 might do it?
mmmm I'll keep plugging on..anybody with ideas?

I'd be tempted to do a factory reset on the DNS-323 and reformat your disk(s). Then disable any firewall software on your computer and use an Ethernet cable between your computer and DNS-323 to verify you can access the shares. If you can't it would indicate an issue with the box.
-
Jamie, I did exactly that last night..well I didn't reformat the disks, and it's back up..it's still doing strange things, if I reboot the 323 it's not always accessible, I just need to play around with it a bit,
thanks for your help

Are you able to ping the DNS-323 when the shares aren't visible? Can you access the shares by UNC path directly? Just trying to establish if the box is accessible from your machine.

yes I can ping OK without the drive in, seems to be ok without reboot then it plays up..sometimes.
main thing is i've backed up my data to a 3rd drive..taking no chances this time.!! :)
