Title: FTP Server R/W issues
Post by: rototiller on May 11, 2010, 11:45:32 AM
Okay Ladies and Gents, here's my problem maybe you can help me with...
I have FTP set up w/ dynamic DNS and it's working properly.  I have set up a Media Folder w/ 3 sub folders labled Pictures, Music, and Movies on the NAS.  All the users I have created I've given R/W privileges too.  When I go to my ftp address I set up and plug in the user name and password, it allows me to copy the pictures onto the hard drive of the computer I logged in from but when I try to copy any other file i.e. a music file/mp3 I get a window that says that I cannot d/l that file due to my login request was denied.  Am I doing something wrong or not allowed to do or something?  I've tried it from my mother's house as well as my house, same problem.

What FTP client do you use? Does it work on the local lan?

Is it the same FTP path/share you try to access, maybe it
then could be the wrong directory owner/privs set to that directory or file?

Don't remember if you need to forward any FTP ports, both 20 & 21!
If it works on one directory but not on any subdirectory, it sounds like a privilege problem!

Any strange directory or subdirectory name/naming in use?

Try another FTP client with other setting options and a possibility to show file/directory owner etc..
(FileZilla works nice and you can playaround with ports, pasv mode etc..)
