Post by: coldtrix on May 13, 2010, 02:32:49 AM
Now i havent had any real great luck with wireless on this router but i currently blame my ISP for its crap up/down speeds. Anyways i was wonering if there is anything i can do to increade the wireless range from the router i live in a two story house and everytime i got about one to two walls away from the router i get a instant signal drop usually about a bar or two so if anyone knows anyways to help me out with this problem like an additional piece of hardware i can buy then plz by all means let me know.

What wireless modes are you using Mixed, single mode? What band? 2.4 or 5Ghz? How about trying single or dual band, i.e. G mode only at 2.4Ghz or B and G mode at 2.4Ghz. What firmware is currently loaded?

It might be the wireless device that is connected to the router. Does this only happen with only one device? have you tried connecting other devices?

I admit this is happening on a dwa-160 which is a comeplete and utter useless POS adapter but i do notice it on all the other laptops in the house i also admit its not where near as bad on those other laptops but still getting signal drop when i move rooms regardless of the brand or type of adapter maybe i can get something that will increase the range of the wireless of the router any suggestions?

Your always going to get signal drop. Energy is ever depleting my friend. Also, you can get dead zone, interference, etc. In your case it sounds like you may have a type of insulation(foil backing) that is messing with it. You can get range exstenders, repeaters, etc, but what are your expectations? If you loose a bar every room, and if your looking to make it reach 3 floors, wireless may not be for you.

Wish I could give you specifics here, but I don't know enough about your network.
