I upgraded to firmware 1.08 today and now I'm getting this message when I view the logs:
"fan can't rotate, check it please."
Thing is, the fan is rotating, it's spinning at full blast.
I also can't adjust the fan speed in Power Management. So is the fan sensor damaged? Does Dlink replace these fans under warranty? I can't even remember when I bought this NAS, could have been over a year ago.

Reset to factory defaults and manually configure it, don't restore saved settings.
-
Will doing this delete any data from the drive?
-
No, it just resets the configuration info in the unit.
-
Okay I reset the device to factory defaults but in the log it still says "fan can't rotate, check it please."
Is there anything else I could possibly try?
-
RMA to D-Link?
-
Okay sounds like it could be faulty.
-
If a factory reset didn't make it work, I can't think of anything you can do.
Is the fan actually running?
-
Yes it does, intermittently, so sometimes when I do a restart on the unit the fan will turn on full blast, other times when doing a reboot it won't even turn on. In either case, it will display that message "fan can't rotate, check it please." message in the logs, so this message displays regardless of whether the fan is turning or not.
-
Sounds like either the fan is defective or the sensor that checks rotation is not working.
-
I have had a feeling for quite a while that this is probably the case. I'll send it in for repairs. Any idea what the warranty period is on these devices?
-
Probably a year, but I'm sure it's on the D-Link site.
