I am having some trouble changing my admin password.
I logged in using the [blank] password, and went to tools. Typed in the new password I want to use, and saved the settings. Then I closed out the window, and tried to log in again. I put in my new pw and it said it was invalid. It's still requiring me to log in using the [blank] pw.
So I tried closing out my browser session (I have it set to clear cookies and such every time I quit), restarted and tried again. Still no luck. So I waited for about an hour to be sure the router login had timed out and tried again. Still no joy.
When I log in and go to the admin pw change page, it has the new one filled in, but I can't actually use that to log in.
Am I missing some stupid step? Kind of a noob to all this, and so maybe I am. I hope I was clear about what my problem is.

I've been reading many post in lots of threads. It seems that you need to upgrade to the latest firmware (follow all steps and all prompts and make sure you read everything). Once the firmware is updated then try going to the Tools~>Admin and slowly type in your desired password and slowly verify it again by typing again. In my experience it's always when I'm in a rush and don't seem to think straight. Then it turns out that I've misspelled my own password. This has happened to me several times. ;D
You know what try this: Open Notepad and type in your password. Whenever you are about to assign your admin password, just copy and paste it in both text boxes. This way there's no way you can mess up. Then go to the top and click on "Save Settings". It will then log itself out and you can try it log in that way or just paste the password again.
I hope this tidbit helps:)
By the way, when you update to the latest firmware, all configurations will return to factory default. You can save your configurations to your desktop before you do an update or if you feel up to the task redo them again manually.

Hi
I have dlink-628 with firmware ver 1.33 and have a same issue about change the admin password and/or change anything else such as time, comfig etc etc.... I almost throw in towel after reading some on here forum that s1 suggest himself get new router other than dlink... hold and behold.... I did some playing around and hit bingo. Any time when you try for first time or even many times after you setup router, you MUST FIRST do this starting routine (in the http://192.168.0.1 page) SETUP tab >> INTERNET (on left column) >> on that page INTERNER CONNEBTION SETUP WIZARD and click on Internet Connection Setup Wizard. You will be doing few steps setup (password and few others) and when you are done with this setup and reboot then you can change anything you want anywhere. Before you jump into above instructions, I advised that you MUST FIRST do the RESET button the back of router. Hold the pin (or pen) in reset button for few second till you see all light chamge to single yellow indicator and let go of reset. Good luck.

Seem to be bug in their program, even that they mentioned you can do one of two ways of setup.... well it isnt so... you have to do internet connection setup wizard first

Always use Dlinks web page to check for updates. If you choose to update FW, use the FW update stick process please.
