You have to connect it to your DSL or Cable modem using an Ethernet cable.

The DSL signals is arriving via a standard telephone 4 wire cable.  It does not connect directly to the router.  You must use a DSL 'modem' device which needs to have an Ethernet (RJ-45) port, which should be connected onto the WAN port.

Routers let you share ONE Internet access across several computers at the same time.  The DIR routers never indicated that they act as a modem (DSL or Cable.)
