I am going to upgrade to the DGL-4500. Better to use cat-5 or cat-6 cable?
Anyone upgrade from the DGL-4300 to this? How do you like it? Have my printer, laptops,Sony PS3 and the new Xbox 360 slim that are going to run off of this. Thanks for the info.

Hope the 4500 will work well for you as it has worked well for me over the years. Regarding CAT 5 and 6. General use and gaming, Cat 5 is good for everything. Cat 6 is good if your one of many geeks like me and others on here and around the world that want to hop to Cat 6 for a better over head on a Gb network LAN system. This has some benefit for the internal networking of your house hold and does help on transfer rates within the house network. Once you hit the WAN side of the network then everyone is at the mercy of what there ISP have installed. So if your just an average computer user with no extreme needs or geeky desires then Cat 5 will work just as good for you. The cost between them is about the same if not much more. I just upgraded my network for about 30 bucks using pre made cables and all color coded. I bought a spool of 1000ft Cat 6 for $90 bucks so I can wired the new addition and run other cables down the road. Over all, if you have the money, it's not a bad investment to out fit the LAN network system for CAT 6 and going Gb speeds on the LAN. If you don't have alot of devices that can do Gb speeds then Cat 5 will work great as well. Things to think about. Hope it all works well. Let us know.

Sounds good man. Ya, I've been enjoying the 4500 well. I don't have any experience with the 4300 however I'm sure it works well. Go for broke and get Cat 6, it's cheap enough for it and why not. Review the Gaming and Gamefuel sticky for xbox setup. Works well. Let us know how it goes.

I will check that out, thanks. I know that the new slim model will only work on 2.4 ghz, so the people who went out and have a 5ghz router are not going to be happy. Thanks for the help. Once I get everything set up,I'll let you know how everything is.

You can get super cheap CAT6 premade cables on ebay, like $1-3 for 2-25'. You're a sucker (or desperate) if you ever buy cables at a store.

I got mine from Deepsurplus.com, theres another one too, can't remember the name, start with an M i think.
