Just found that a new FW version was released this week, v1.09. I just bought this box
and realized I was running v1.01. Upgraded and cleared up my problems.
ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Multimedia/dns323/Firmware/dns323_fw_109.zip
Hopefully won't run into problems as documented in the v1.08 thread.
-
Well, 1.09 just adds the on-line backup, AFAIK, no other changes. So, whatever issues 1.08 has, it most likely has as well.

Well technically there is another change which is the change of compression type for firmware...a reason why the firmware is smaller. Allows us to add more stuff to the firmware without the need of an addon... :)
Not really a noteworthy feature since it doesn't really benefit users just yet.
-
Well, that's a good feature for the future, but probably not much help for the present. :D

Nothing on the UK site yet :(

UK is not launching 1.09. This is a US only release.
-
I guess the on-line backup is only available in the US?

we won't be seeing improved firmware compression either then?
-
I have to suspect that the compression will probably appear in a subsequent release when they need the space to add features. :)

Correct.
US/Canada are the only ones launching online backup service at this time in 1.09 firmware. The next release 1.10 is a worldwide release and yes it will have the fw compression for more bells and whistles ;).

For some suggestions for "bells and whistles", you can consult the thread: DNS-323 1.08 Ongoing Issue List
;D ;D

what's the difference between UK and US FW?
Why I ask - I bought it from local web-store and have no idea from which country it is delivered originally from.
hardware version is C1. As my native language is not English - I make no difference if it is UK English or US. Is there any other differencies there I should be ware of?

Hey D-Link, i know there has been issues in the past with mentioning dates but can do you think 1.10 will be available in 2010 or are we waiting till 2011?

2010 is the plan. I do not currently have a beta available but I could foresee it in the near future.

Good luck getting any answers from D-Link. I have asked repeatedly for something on fw release dates and so far them have turned a deaf ear. They will not even respond with approximate dates. I would be satisfied if they would give us an intermediate fw that fixed some of the major issues instead of waiting until they fixed them all and I don't mean a fw like 1.09. Give us a 1.10 with major problems fixed. They know what the major problems are by looking at the 1.08 problem list and the issues with big response numbers. We do have a lot of numbers left and and some of us sure could use the fixes.

I'm sure that trashing the D-Link reps here is the way to get action... NOT! ::)

Also keep in mind. Your DNS however much it works, or doesnt work.
Is not the end of the world
(2012 on the other hand IS the end of the world, lol)

Did you do a reset to default after the firmware flash?
-
I bought with 1.08 but i can try, there is a risk for my datas ?
-
There's always a risk to your data - turning it on and off puts your data at risk - but apart from that, a reset to default does not normally jeopardize your data.
However, if it shipped with 1.08, then a reset to default should not be required - there's no harm in trying it - I asked that becaused I assumed you had upgraded from a previous version, and off dtuff can happen if a reset is not done after the flash upgrade.
-
Ok i tried and at first it was ok, but after reconfiguration my first HDD never sleep (the second is ok)
I suspect mail alert ...
-
It's not the email alerts - I use those and have no problems with the unit not sleeping.
-
I returned my DNS-323 C1 Hardware back to Future Shop and exchanged for a B1. I didn't want to wait for the new firmware to come out to address this issue. It came with v1.07 firmware, I upgraded to v1.09 - Now Fan shuts down as expected when there are no activities. Hard Drive at first keep spinning until I deleted Bittorrent from the addon section. So all is good now.
-
Yes i confirm :( It's not the email alerts
