Title: cannot access internet from one of the boxes
Post by: marekwk on March 04, 2008, 07:26:00 PM
have 4 wired and 2 wireless connections.  all but one are working fine.  one of the desktops cannot access internet (tried both Firefox and M$ Exploder - verified settings).  this box accessed the net w/o any problems before introducing D-655.  connects to the router just fine and sees other machines / can access files on them.  yet cannot get outside.  since it's my dedicated torrent box, I would really like to get it going again.

any ideas... I am stumped: ???

weird.  looks like I figured the problem.  I had enabled DHCP reservation to avoid conflicts as machines come on-line by having dedicated IP addresses reserved to them.  well, I removed reservations, and now my stubborn torrent box is getting out on the net.

what I still do not understand is why only this one particular machine would be affected by DHCP reservations.

Some devices are stubborn when it comes to releasing previously assigned IP addresses. You will have to force the release and renew by clearing the DNS cache.

Can you please list the changes in the router's configuration have already been tried? This would ensure that our suggestions are not redundant. Any software firewalls on the computers in the network? Make sure that you are not running any software firewalls as those would also interfere with the setup of the network. Were you able to ping the DIR-655 from the 'not working PCs'? Like someone mentioned above, you may also flash the DNS cache from the command window.
