Title: dir 628 and shareport won't stay connected
Post by: homer7557 on July 07, 2010, 11:20:40 AM
So I have to say I am totally green at the router thing, but I have purchased a dir -628 router with firmware 122.na and shareport 1.10 on windows 7 64 bit home premium.  when i run the shareport utility usually will connect and read my book studio 500 gb drive, but will usually disconnect within 1-2 minutes, then reconnects/disconnects continually occasionally will stay connected for 7 -8 minutes, but this is not the norm. Like i said at the start, really new at this and cautious, have read of firmware updates bricking routers which makes me leary of that route. What can I do to resolve this issue? Have used the driver from SX virtual link 3.4.0 almost seems to be a little more stable, with less connects and reconnects, but still poor performance. file transfers of any size will not complete as system will disconnect.

Thank you for your thoughts.

Ken

hey ken i unfortunately have the same problem with my external hdd and my dgl-4500 router. It connects, then in 1-2 minutes will seemingly disconnect itself and begin connecting all over again.

any fixes for this anyone?

When the HDD goes in to sleep mode the connection will be lost..... Most external HDD's are set to go into sleep mode. So check the settings on that disk (use a HDD manufacturer tool to do so)

HDD's need more power than the Dlink USB port can provide. You need externally powered HDD, esp. when the drive is 7200 rpm
