Title: Print server issues
Post by: Svenborg on July 13, 2010, 08:47:47 PM
Hello. I seem to be having problems with my print server. About a month back I had a false drive failure and I took that opportunity to update my firmware to 1.08 from 1.04. Prior to that point I had two computers using the print sever with a Canon ip4000....one was Xp one was Win7 Pro 64bit. I now have 2 64 bit computers hooked to it..Vista and Win7  and neither one will use the print server. Both will see the netstor\lp and install drivers.....but both will not communicate with it. I have checked the printer with both systems using the USB local and can print test pages. I have tried creating a new port with the IP/lp and still no joy. Could the firmware upgrade have pooched the print server in some fashion??? As I said this WAS working prior to the firmware upgrade.

FWIW, I had to discontinue using the print server on my DNS-323.  Apparently, either my print driver or the LPD support on Windows 7 has a memory leak.  After a couple of days, the spooler was consuming 1.3 gigabytes of memory.  The cure was connecting that printer directly to my machine and eliminating the print server.  Since I used the same drivers to connect it directly, I'm guessing the LPD support was the issue.

The print server in 1.08 (and 1.09 beta) works fine - if that's what you're trying to find out - the update might have pooched your installation, but it still works.

Hmm...ok..it just seems odd that it would not keep working after doing an update. When updating the firmware should the printer be turned off and disconnected fron the nas???...or does it matter.
