Title: Laptop loses connection, but desktop keeps it
Post by: wesandell on July 20, 2010, 03:32:39 PM
I recently began having an issue with my dgl-4500.  My desktop has the dlink extreme pci-e adapter and it stays connected to the wireless network fine.  So does my printer and iphone.

However, sometimes when i bring my laptop back from sleep it loses the connection to the internet.  the popup asking where the network is comes up (ie, Home, work, public).  and the network adds a number 2 to the name of the network (ie the network name "dlink" becomes "dlink 2".  My roommate's laptop and desktop do the same thing as mine.  My desktop is Win 7, my laptop is Vista, his desktop is Vista, and his laptop is XP.  I have all the settings on default, except for changing the admin password and setting up WPA2 security.

I originally had 1.15 firmware, but just upgraded to 1.22NA yesterday hoping it would fix it.  It didn't.  I'm starting to get kinda mad cause this was a really expensive router when i got it (it's an A1) and has been working great up until a few days ago.

did you configure this connection to automatically connect when woken up from sleep status?

yes, as i said this router has been working fine since i got it over a year ago.  When i come back from sleep it will automatically connect to the network, but it will be "dlink 2" and will not have access to the internet or even let me log into the router menu.  My desktop works completely fine.

In order to fix it I have to hard reset the router, because even if i delete the settings under "manage wireless networks" and delete the wireless location.  When I try to log in from scratch and type in the ssid, it will connect to the network, but it will be "local only", but won't even let me do anything local only.

fixed it, the ethernet cable for my bluray player was screwed up.  Somehow that caused the wireless to act all messed up.  replaced the cable and now its working fine.
