Title: Slow internet DL/Fast network VS Fast internet DL/Slow Network
Post by: chickenium on July 22, 2010, 05:37:08 PM
Hello everyone

EDIT : All connections mentioned here are WIRED!

I've been having some issues with my D-Link lately.  I just recently upgraded my internet speed to 50Mbps with my ISP.  However, when I tested my downloading speed, I noticed that it was capping at around 20-22 Mbps while using the router.  To make sure, I unplugged the router and hooked up my modem directly to my computer and BAM, 50Mbps.  Replug modem to router to PC, back to 20Mbps.

Now I did some digging and found out that by going in the NCI in the Device manager and changing the Speed&Duplex from Auto to 100 Mb Full, it could fix my problem.  When I retest my internet download speed, it's up to a satisfying 45Mbps.

Unfortunately, when I then attempt to copy some files to another computer on my network, I notice that the transfer speed is down to a measly 100-200 KBps.  When I go back into the Device manager and reselect Auto in the Speed&Duplex field, I find that my network transfer speed to my other computer is back to 12-13 MBps.

Now is there a way to combine maximum internet download speed with maximum network transfer speed?  I would greatly appreciate any help!

Well I did some fiddling around and it turns out that disabling WAN Traffic Shaping fixed all my problems.  I'm now getting DL speeds faster than than my advertised ISP package (53Mbps VS 50 Mbps advertised).

I have also reset the Speed&Duplex to Auto to retain good network transfer speeds.

I hope this can help anyone in my situation!
